Expectations of Students
- Come to class prepared. If you are asked to watch a video make sure you watch it. Pay attention to vocabulary and be prepared to discuss with others what you learned from the video. If you do not engage in the class discussion it tells me you did not watch the video.
- Bring your materials. I can see forgetting something once in a while. We all do this. If it is habitual we will have a problem.
- It is okay to get help on a problem, but you need to understand anything that you write down. Think of it this way, "If Mr. Sullivan called on me in-class would I be able to explain to him the problem?"
- There will be times where you will be frustrated. How you respond to this frustration will define how successful you will be in this class.
- Do your work. I spend a lot of time choosing problems. I try to maximize learning while trying to minimize the amount of time you spend on homework. Homework is inevitable in mathematics. I see not doing homework as a symbol of disrespect. I will have no problem keeping you after until your work is done. You get one freebie per semester.
- Complete your work. I make myself available at lunch, during study halls, and after school. There is no excuse for coming in with your work done. Planning is the key. If you wait until the night before to start your homework you are playing with fire. Get it started the night it is given so you can ask me about the challenges the day before our next class.
- Participate in class. I like questions. If you do not understand something it is your responsibility to ask or get the extra help.
- Study for quizzes/tests. I will always tell you specifically what is on any quizzes or tests that we take. You need to study by doing problems.
