Philosophy of Teaching
What is my view of teaching? First of all I need to give you a little insight into my teaching experience. I began teaching in high school mathematics almost 20 years ago (Wow! That went fast!) at the high school level in Kansas. I have taught every mathematics course from algebra to calculus at the high school level and I taught statistics as an adjunct instructor at the community college. Nine years ago I started the PhD program at Penn State where I took additional mathematics and mathematics education courses and taught a methods course to prospective secondary mathematics teachers. These experiences have shaped my views on teaching and learning and they form the basis of how I think mathematics should be taught at Grace Prep.

- Verbalize their reasoning and thought processes in a manner that others understand
- Extend their thinking beyond the scope of what was discussed in class, and
- Use known information to solve novel problems that require higher level thinking skills.
